Jurors find boat manufacturer partly liable

A federal jury Monday found a boat manufacturer partially liable for a 2005 incident on Lake Austin in which a teen's leg was severed by a propeller. Jurors ordered the company to pay $3.8 million in medical expenses and damages.

According to Monday's decision, Brunswick was 66 percent responsible for the accident, and Brochtrup and the boat's driver each were 17 percent liable. The driver wasn't part of the suit and will pay no damages.

What are your thoughts on this?

Flowers go very well with a new boat!

http://donnahomesblog.com/post/1489600/it-s-so-special-to-receive-a-thank-you

As some of you know (and many more do not) we don't just deal in boats here at Austin Boats & Motors. We also deal in flowers. YES! I said flowers. I know. Hard to put the two together. Well think of it like this. Boat sales slow down in the winter. Flowers sales are strongest then. And, when hubby takes his new boat home to the wife, it's sometimes better received with a large vase full of long stem red roses.

Warranties Honored for Four Winns, Wellcraft, Glastron, Ranger, Stratos, Champion!

“Absolutely!” David Huls answered, when asked whether Platinum Equity would honor warranties. “We will honor all warranties for the brands that we bought.” David Huls is President and CEO of “Project Boat Holdings”, the corporate umbrella for Platinum Equity which bought Four Winns, Wellcraft, Glastron, Ranger, Stratos, and Champion from the Genmar Chapter 11 proceedings. “Rest assured that we will stand behind all of the published policies and warranty programs for those brands,” he said adamantly yesterday to BoatTEST.com’s editor, Jeff Hammond. He also said, “We are one of the best capitalized businesses in the boating industry,” he said, “and we will be investing in these businesses going forward.”

Production of Glastron boats will be moved from Little Falls, MN to Cadillac, MI for the 2011 model year, as part of the Platinum Equity consolidation of Genmar assets.

MRAA's Young Leaders begin work

reported by Boating Industry
Friday December 11, 2009

BOCA GRANDE, Fla. — The Marine Retailers Association of America’s newly formed Young Leaders Advisory Council met for the first time Nov. 16 during the Marine Dealer Conference & Expo and will meet again via conference call on Dec. 16, according to a release from the MRAA.

During the group's first meeting, Carly Poole of Canadian dealership Buckeye Marine was elected chairperson, and Ryan Hebert of Texas Marine was elected secretary.

The council also voted to place several proposals in front of the MRAA Board of Directors, established three committees to work on group goals and selected members to serve on two MRAA Board committees.

Other YLAC members include: Brad Parker, Parker Boats of Daytona; Alex Russo, Russo Marine; Luke Kujawa, Crystal-Pierz Marine; Billy McKee, Utah WaterSports; Matt Lodder, Lodder Marine; Eric Smith, Colorado Boat Center; Jeff Haradine, WakeSide Marine; Thalia Chase, Castaway Marine; Lauren Woodard-Splatt, Woodard Marine; Martin Boyer, Austin Boats & Motors; and Liz Walz of Boating Industry.

The new committees are Marketing (Hebert, Parker, Poole and Boyer), Industry Relations (Russo, Walz and Poole) and Benefits (McKee, Haradine and Lodder). In addition, two members were selected to sit on the MRAA Membership Committee (Smith and Chase), and three were named to the association’s newly created Long Term Planning Committee (Walz, Smith and Woodard-Splatt).

The Young Leaders Advisory Council was established earlier this year to provide fresh perspectives to the MRAA Board of Directors as well as to improve and grow the MRAA and boating industry. The group is headed up by MRAA Board Members Nancy Smith and Paul Nickel.

“MRAA has great confidence in the future of this council," MRAA Director Nancy Smith said in the release. "We’re very excited about the possibilities for growth within MRAA and the boating industry.”

Council members, who are required to be under 40 years of age and an MRAA member, were chosen based on the results of a call for nominations issued this summer. They were elected to serve a two-year-term.

Centurion expands its dealer network

MERCED, Calif. – Boat builder Centurion has been working to expand its dealer network and improve its dealer and consumer communications, it reported in a recent statement.

“Centurion has been very proactive, and we’ve evolved with the market to the benefit of our dealers and retail customers,” said Centurion Chief Marketing Officer Mark Overbye. “We are on target with our programs, product and vision and see the results with orders and growing list of new dealers.”

In the past year, Centurion has created a Web site with a CRM component that instantly sends leads directly to dealers, increasing accountability with consumer follow up and dealer floor traffic by tenfold, according to the company. Dealers benefit from expedited parts orders, warranty filing and actions plus consumers get direct access to the company, according to Centurion. In addition, conduits to Centurion athletes via Facebook, Twitter, blogs and other social media were recently added to the Centurion Web site.

“2009 was a tough year. But it also inspired dealers to re-evaluate their vendors and
Centurion has benefited from that,” added Overbye. “We’ve worked hard and made serious investments in our brand, how we partner with our dealers and reach out to consumers. The industry has taken note and we’ve added many new dealers.”
